Dr. Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, recently visited Kano to inspect the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Digital Innovation Park, a critical infrastructure for advancing the country’s digital economy. Earlier this year, the park was vandalized, disrupting its intended role as a center for hands-on learning and innovation, particularly for participants in the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program.
IHS Towers Pledges to Restore the Innovation Park
During his visit, Dr. Bosun Tijani announced a major development: IHS Towers, a leading telecommunications infrastructure provider, has committed to fully renovating the vandalized facility. Once restored, the park will continue to play its pivotal role in providing practical experience and training to 3MTT fellows. The renovation is a significant step toward building a skilled workforce in Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital sector, aligning with the government’s goal of equipping citizens with the technical skills needed for a global digital economy.
Engagement with 3MTT Fellows in Kano
In addition to inspecting the facility, Dr. Tijani met with 3MTT fellows in Kano. He delivered an inspiring message, affirming his belief in their potential to become key players in the global digital workforce. He emphasized that their dreams and aspirations are valid and expressed his confidence that the renovated park would help empower them to achieve their goals by providing access to the practical tools and training needed for success in the digital space.
Appreciation for Kano State Government’s Support
Dr. Tijani also extended his gratitude to the Kano State Government, led by Executive Governor H.E. Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for their warm hospitality and ongoing support of the federal government’s initiatives to promote digital education and innovation across Nigeria. The partnership between the federal government and Kano State is seen as crucial for achieving the country’s digital transformation objectives, including fostering innovation, expanding digital literacy, and enhancing the technological infrastructure needed to drive Nigeria’s future economic growth.
With IHS Towers’ support and the government’s continued efforts, the NCC Digital Innovation Park is set to become a hub for innovation, learning, and skill-building that will further strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and position its workforce for global competitiveness.
