Google Launches AI Academy to Transform Public Sector Infrastructure

Google emphasizes that while much of the attention on AI focuses on the development of models, tools, and interfaces, the practical application of AI can significantly benefit communities at various levels. The company encourages startups to apply even if they aren't directly working within the specified industries but are striving to improve public services in a more efficient and equitable manner.

Google has introduced a new initiative aimed at integrating AI technology into the public sector, called the “Google for Startups AI Academy: American Infrastructure.” Announced on Wednesday, this program offers hands-on training and support to startups addressing challenges in various domains, including agriculture, energy, education, public safety, healthcare, telecommunications, transportation, urban development, and more.

The 12-week, equity-free program provides participants with an AI curriculum developed by Google’s People + AI Research (PAIR) team. In addition to AI training, startups will benefit from advanced sales and go-to-market workshops, access to industry connections, and the opportunity to utilize Google’s AI tools during their development process.

Upon completion of the AI Academy, graduates will join an alumni network that features companies like JustAir, which uses AI for air pollution monitoring; Cambio, focused on decarbonizing commercial real estate; and Sensagrate, dedicated to reducing traffic fatalities.
