  1. In-Stream Ads: These ads can be displayed before, during, or after videos on Facebook. Creators can earn revenue based on the performance of these videos.
  2. Ads on Reels: Ads will appear within short-form video content on Facebook Reels, allowing creators to monetize their Reels content.

Eligibility and Language Support:

  • To qualify for monetization, creators must have at least 5,000 followers and comply with Facebook’s monetization policies.
  • The features support over 30 languages, including Swahili, making them accessible to a broad audience in Kenya.

Government Support:

The announcement follows a meeting between Kenyan President William Ruto, Meta representatives, and local content creators in March to discuss monetization opportunities. President Ruto emphasized the significance of M-Pesa as a payment method for Kenyan creators, highlighting the government’s support for initiatives that promote digital content creation and monetization.

These new features are expected to significantly boost the creative industry in Kenya, enabling content creators to generate income and grow their online communities effectively.

This initiative aligns with Meta’s broader strategy to support creators globally and provide them with opportunities to monetize their content, contributing to the growth of the digital economy.
