MTN Ghana Introduces ‘Pick and Pay Later’: Transforming Smartphone Accessibility
A Groundbreaking Initiative for Ghanaians
MTN Ghana, in collaboration with MobileMoney Ltd and Access Bank Ghana PLC, has launched the innovative “MTN Pick and Pay Later” service. This initiative provides Ghanaians with an opportunity to own smartphones through flexible payment plans, revolutionizing access to modern digital tools for millions of people.
The program reflects MTN’s commitment to empowering individuals to embrace a more connected and digital lifestyle by making smartphones more affordable and accessible.
How the ‘Pick and Pay Later’ Program Works
The process is straightforward, ensuring ease of use for customers:
- Select a Smartphone: Customers can browse through a range of affordable 4G smartphones.
- Make an Initial Payment: An upfront payment is required to secure the device.
- Flexible Installment Plans: Pay the remaining balance in 4 or 6 monthly installments via MTN Mobile Money (MoMo).
- Credit Scoring: MTN’s credit scoring engine evaluates the customer’s creditworthiness to determine their eligibility and the range of available devices.
- Access the Service: Dial *170#, navigate to Financial Services, and select “Device Pick and Pay Later” under Loans.
A Collaborative Effort to Drive Financial Inclusion
The initiative is supported by key partners, including Hollard Insurance, PaySwitch, and Atlantic Phones, ensuring a seamless experience for customers while offering high-quality devices.
Matilda Asante-Asiedu, Director of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC, highlighted the program’s potential to bridge financial gaps:
“Only 13% of eligible Ghanaians have access to borrowing. This program bridges the gap, empowering more individuals in an increasingly digital world.”
Driving a Modern, Connected Life
MTN’s Chief Commercial Officer, Noel Kojo-Ganson, emphasized the broader goal of the initiative:
“Everyone deserves the benefit of a modern, connected life.”
The program aligns with MTN Ghana’s broader mission to increase digital inclusion, particularly among underserved and unbanked populations, by ensuring access to affordable smartphones.
Why This Matters
The “Pick and Pay Later” service is more than just a smartphone financing program. It represents:
- Digital Empowerment: Enabling more Ghanaians to access high-speed internet and digital services.
- Financial Inclusion: Offering affordable payment solutions for individuals who might not qualify for traditional loans.
- Economic Impact: Supporting the growth of a connected economy by increasing smartphone penetration.
What’s Next?
MTN Ghana plans to expand the program’s reach, encouraging more customers to adopt digital financial solutions while fostering a stronger digital ecosystem. By partnering with trusted brands and leveraging its MoMo platform, MTN ensures this initiative has a lasting impact on Ghana’s digital transformation journey.
With “Pick and Pay Later,” MTN Ghana continues to solidify its position as a leader in driving innovation and inclusivity, proving that technology can be both accessible and transformative.
