The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that data modifications for National Identification Numbers (NIN) can now only be processed through its self-service modification portal. Effective immediately, modifications are no longer available at NIN enrollment centres across the country.
New Data Modification Process
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commission emphasized that the shift to the online self-service portal is part of its broader efforts to improve the National Identity Management System. According to the NIMC, the move is designed to streamline services, reduce wait times, and enhance data security for all users.
“Dear NIN holders, please be informed that as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the National Identity Management System, modification activities will no longer be conducted in our enrollment centres,” the NIMC said. Instead, NIN holders must now utilize the NIMC self-service modification portal to update their personal information.
Benefits of the Self-Service Portal
The Commission highlighted several benefits of the self-service platform, including:
- Convenience: Users can update their personal data from anywhere at any time.
- No More Long Queues: The online system eliminates the need to visit crowded enrollment centres.
- Enhanced Security: The portal is designed with secure features to protect user information.
- Improved Efficiency: Faster processing times and quicker approvals.
Though the portal had been launched prior to this change, users could still access modifications at enrollment centres. The recent announcement formalizes the complete transition to online services. Despite the advantages, some users have reported technical issues with the portal, such as problems with OTP authentication and functionality.

- Upload Required Documents: Attach your NPC certificate and other necessary supporting documents.
- Submit the Request: Review your details, check the attestation box, and submit your modification request.
- Generate Transaction Slip: A transaction slip will be generated instantly after submission.
- Approval and Notification: Upon approval, a notification will be sent to your email, and your updated NIN slip will be available for download or printing directly from the portal.
This new approach underscores NIMC’s commitment to modernizing the National Identity Management System and delivering more efficient services to Nigerian citizens.
