YouTube Music is rolling out a much-needed feature—Timestamp Sharing. This allows users to share specific moments from songs, podcasts, or audio recordings, similar to the functionality already available on the main YouTube app. Here’s how it works:
What’s New
Before this update, sharing content on YouTube Music meant recipients had to start from the beginning. Now, with Timestamp Sharing, the playback time is embedded in the link, making it easier to direct someone to a specific moment in a song or podcast.

This feature is especially useful for:
- Podcast listeners who want to highlight specific segments of episodes.
- Music lovers eager to share favorite parts of songs or special moments.
How It Works
Timestamp sharing works by adding a “t=xx” parameter to the URL, where “xx” is the playback time in seconds. For example:
- A link like https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=789E1uGvG5s&t=110 will start playing 1 minute and 50 seconds into the track.
Steps to Use:
- Play the content: Open YouTube Music and start playing the desired content.
- Share: Tap the share icon below the player.
- Enable Timestamp: Toggle the “Start at [timestamp]” option to add the current playback time.
- Share the link: Copy or send the timestamped link.
This feature is being gradually rolled out on Android, iOS, and web apps. If it’s not visible, make sure your app is updated or try clearing the app cache for a forced update.
With Google transitioning away from Google Podcasts and focusing on YouTube Music as the new podcast hub, Timestamp Sharing is a positive step forward, improving the sharing experience for both podcast and music lovers.
